Cool Down Your Pet’s Bed

Cool Down Your Pet’s Bed

You want your pet to be at his most comfortable all year round. While your everyday pet beds available at the store are made to be comfy and cozy, the latter might not work well during the summer. As those temperatures start or continue to soar, you may notice your pet avoids the normal cozy corner for a cooler floor. If that’s the case, consider a new summer bed for your pet.

Get Some Air

One of the key ingredients to a cooler summer bed is air. When your pet curls up on a fluffy bed, they warm up that spot thanks to their own body heat, that heat is trapped in the softness and they stay warm. Even a bare floor is not as cool as a bed that allows plenty of air flow.

Start with a bed that rises off the ground. That places your pet in the air, quite literally. The bed portion should be a breathable fabric, as well. Many raised pet beds are made of a mesh for this very reason. If your pet doesn’t seem to like the material, you can add anything necessary to make it more comfortable and attractive to them.

Cooling Action

If the raised bed simply does not work for your pet, try a bed designed to be cool, literally. There are ped beds made of materials that act as coolers, rejecting your pet’s body heat, rather than absorbing it. These beds and pads may have cooling gel, pourous foam and other materials that help keep your pet cool. Some of them can calso be added to your pet’s normal bed so that they can have their favorite, soft comfort with an added cooling benefit.

Cool Additions

Of course, if your pet is just so picky that you are left with few choices, you can always add a fan near your pet’s favorite spot, add ice to the water bowl and even combine those two; you can place a bowl of ice water in front of the fan for cooler air. You can get some benefit from this, too.

Keep your pet cool this summer. Cool pet beds are great for states like Texas where the heat lasts what seems like forever. For any health concerns, bring your pet to Pet Vet Hospitals; we’re here to help.
